Germany is the 4th largest recipient of global international student enrolments, with over 340,000 students enrolling in 2016. There is also a vast number of domestic students choosing to study in Germany, meaning that over 3 million students are enrolled in tertiary education.
Despite the number of students across the key university cities, the provision of purpose built student accommodation by comparison is lacking.
GSA believes that Germany presents a key opportunity for its European expansion and therefore launched the ‘Uninest Student Residences’ in four properties across four cities in 2016. Cities include Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Münster and Dresden. The portfolio was increased in 2017 with the addition of a new scheme in Frankfurt and the acquisition of a student residence in Hamburg. Planning ahead GSA is actively seeking development opportunities in order to further expand its presence across key university cities.
Converted to student housing in 2012, the Alvarium is situated within the bustling district of Bockenheim, with all the conveniences and entertainments close by that are necessary for a student’s busy life. In addition to the recently-renovated rooms, other facilities include WiFi internet connection, bicycle storage areas, on-site retail premises and two floors of underground parking. This is located on the corner of Geiststraße and Weseler Straße, very convenient for the Westphalian Wilhelms University and all local amenities.
Darmstadt is one of Germany’s most popular study destination with more than 40,000 students enrolled at various institutions. Uninest Student Residences is located in the former quarter of the printing factories. Converted from office premises in 2014, the property offers 345 studio apartments across a campus of 5 buildings. Transportation links and local amenities are within a short reach.
Albia opened in April 2016. The building offers 199 single studio apartments, including some duplex studios with extra-high ceilings and large windows. Facilities include high-quality room finishes, WiFi internet, rooftop terrace with city views, underground car and bicycle parking. The location of this property is convenient for students to commute to all the main Universities within Dresden.
The two modern building complexes of the Urbanum with their 270 single studio apartments are centrally located in Frankfurt’s Gallus district near the main railway station. From there, every university in Frankfurt can be reached easily and many amenities are close by. Facilities include WiFi internet connection, bicycle storage areas, underground parking and several common areas such as a gym, study room, lounge and common kitchen – plus two roof terraces.
The residents of the Navale live in one of 328 single studio apartments embedded in a modern building complex. Students can choose their favourite room from a variety of studio sizes according to their personal preferences. Within the building, numerous common areas invite students to study, play or connect. All municipal universities are easy to reach, not least because of the short distances to the S-Bahn and U-Bahn.
